Free Herbicide Zone
Ongoing project that exhumes the familial ramifications of Agent Orange herbicidal campaigns during the Vietnam War.
Digging through the HERBS database of spray missions, I link the herbicidal campaigns to the suffering my family has endured. Now declassified, the directives include crossed-out stamps reading “SECRET”, “HARMLESS” and “COVERT”. Parts of the war zone, civilian hamlets and many soldier’s bodies became soaked with dioxin-laced aerial spray campaigns marked “free herbicide zones”. Both the South Vietnamese and U.S. military command planned and approved these missions.
