Hyper-Objective Vine
In the series titled "Hyper-Objective Vine", I capture kudzu-filled environments as monstrous hyperobjects. These exaggerated, apocalyptic visions depict feral kudzu in an atmosphere awash in carbon emissions. Kudzu, the ultimate symbol of Anthropocene excess and rampant overgrowth, is a subtropical Asian vine originally spread as an environmental technology to the U.S. It grows well on disturbed southern slopes by manufacturing its own nitrogen fertilizer. Farm technologists imported the vine to rebuild over-farmed soils, provide easy forage crops, and heal over eroded gullies. By monstering the plant’s profile, my hyper-tableaus mythologize the process of biotechnological blowback. We fed kudzu our ecological disturbance and it became a monstrous kudzilla.
